The Dean of Students Affairs at Mainland Business School, Anyanganse, Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, Mr Donald Obong, has urged students to participate fully in all activities marking the commencement of the institution’s 2026 Students’ Week, warning that failure to do so will attract penalties.
Obong gave the warning today, Monday, April 27, 2026, while speaking at the solemn assembly that officially flagged off the week-long programme of activities on the school campus.
He emphasised that participation in Students’ Week is an important component of campus life and contributes significantly to the overall development of students. The Dean also encouraged students to build relationships and network among themselves, noting that tertiary education goes beyond academic learning.
According to him, “meaningful interaction among students is essential,” stressing that “a tertiary institution loses its essence without active engagement and social connection among members of the academic community.”
He further cautioned students against engaging in activities capable of denting the image of the institution, urging them to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the period of the celebration.
Earlier, while delivering his speech at the opening ceremony and solemn assembly marking the beginning of the week-long activities, the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Comrade John Francis, warmly welcomed students, staff, and guests, describing the occasion as an important moment for building community spirit within the school.
“Students’ week is more than just a celebration. It is a time for us to come together, engage in meaningful activities, and build lasting memories,” he said, urging students to participate actively in all scheduled programmes.
He expressed appreciation to students for their presence at the opening ceremony, noting that their participation reflects the unity, strength, and spirit of the student community. The SUG President also emphasised that the week had been carefully designed to promote creativity, responsibility, and collaboration among students.
