A lecturer at Mainland Business School, Akpabuyo, Mr Okon Effiong, has issued a stern warning to students against leaving his class without permission.
Mr Effiong gave the warning on Friday while delivering a lecture on Philosophy and Logic to Year Two students of the institution.
During the class, he cautioned that students who exit the classroom without authorisation would face disciplinary measures. “If you leave my class without permission, you will stay outside till the end of the class,” he said.
The lecturer also emphasised the importance of learning as a process that should reflect in students’ attitudes and behaviour. According to him, education is expected to shape character and influence how individuals conduct themselves in society.
“When you are learning, it must show in you,” he stated, adding that people’s actions often reveal their level of understanding and personal values. “Whatever you do gives information about you. If everybody is talking badly about you, then you are bad,” he added.
Speaking further, Mr Effiong stressed the need for effective communication among students, urging them to think carefully before expressing themselves.
“Think before speaking. This course aims to improve us,” he advised. He also highlighted the role of background and environment in shaping human behaviour and character. According to him, individual differences often stem from upbringing and social influences.
“Someone brought up in the barracks is different from others. Environment, even religion, influences us,” he said.
